Today, Kristara Calligraphy works and teaches out of her studio at MillHouse McKinney in the Old Cotton Mill building near downtown. Kristara Calligraphy started the first and only dedicated calligraphy studio and classroom in Houston. Since 2014, Kristara has taught hundreds of workshops and more than 2,000 students the art of hand lettering. In addition to her in-person workshops, you can learn from Kristara through her online class and modern calligraphy book, Creative Calligraphy: A Beginner’s Guide to Modern, Pointed-Pen Calligraphy available at all major book retailers!
Each class comes with a curated, professional-quality starter kit with supplies for you to use and take home, champagne, and light bites (yes, we consider cupcakes snacks). Feel free to bring your own beer and wine, too!

SAVE MY SPOTContrary to popular belief, calligraphy and handwriting are two very different things (although, this will help improve your handwriting). Anyone (yes, even lefties) can learn how to write beautiful calligraphy—it just takes practice and patience. That’s why our beginner’s workshop in contemporary, pointed-pen calligraphy will teach you everything you need to get started, without ever making you feel intimidated. We’ll go over equipment (pen holders, nibs, different ink types, papers, etc.), technique (holding the pen, dipping the pen in ink, understanding ink flow and pen pressure), letterforms, basic layouts and troubleshooting.
Learn how to letter your own beautiful envelopes, invitations, chalkboards, wedding details and more. The possibilities are endless.

Investment: Beginner calligraphy lessons are $100 per person and include a curated take-home starter kit, mimosas and light snacks (yes, we consider cupcakes snacks). Feel free to bring your own beverages, too!
